REVISION HISTORY
----------------
1.0 March 15, 1992 Initial Release
1.1 April 02, 1992 Fixed bug which prohibited the DAMENU system to be
installed on any drive but C. Clarified 'blinking'
prompts in DAINSTAL and DAMENU. These same entrys
can now be chosen by hitting the first letter of the
entry.
1.2 May 01, 1992 Bug fix for DAINSTAL, which tried to modify the
AUTOEXEC.BAT file in the root directory of the
installed drive, rather than the boot drive.
QUICK START
-----------
1) Create a directory on your hard disk & copy DAMENU.ZIP (or the contents
of the distribution disk) to that directory.
2) Run the install program DAINSTAL and follow the on-screen prompts.
(hopefully these should be self explanatory for most users) DAINSTAL
creates a small file in the root directory called DAMENU.DAT, which
points to the directory where DAMENU resides.
*** NOTE ***
If you have previously run DAINSTAL and then moved the files to a
different directory, DAMENU will not work properly. To remedy this,
simply delete the file DAMENU.DAT from the root directory, and re-run
DAINSTAL.
3) If you decided to have DAINSTAL modify your AUTOEXEC.BAT, then reboot
your computer once DAINSTAL has finished. Otherwise update the path
statement manually, and add the command 'M' as the last line of the
file so that DAMENU comes up at boot time. Reboot after saving the file.
4) Type 'M' at the DOS prompt to bring up the menu. (If you didn't have
DAINSTAL modify your autoexec, you must be in the directory created in
step 1 above)
5) Select a function key to associate an application with by simply pressing
that key. At this point, all function keys should read "* This Space
Available" and DAMENU knows that you want to setup a new application.
6) Type in the appropriate Application Description, select protection (Yes or
No using the cursor keys), and file-to-pass options (helpful for word
processors).
7) Next type in the name of the application as you would if you were at the
DOS prompt. DAMENU will then search all of the first level subdirectories
on you hard disk for the application. If you have an application that
does not reside in a first level subdirectory, manual modifications can
be made the the menu files to include this in the menu system. See
the file DAMANUAL.DOC for further information.
8) Now hitting the same function key (once the application has been found
successfully) and WaLa!! You're in your app! That's it!
Menu modifications can be made to an existing function key by hitting the
ALT key combined with that function key. Protection on exiting to DOS
can be made by selecting ALT-F10.
The initial password is DAMENU, and can be changed by re-running the
installation program (don't worry, DAINSTAL knows that DAMENU has been
installed already, and will bring up different menu) DAINSTAL can be invoked
from within DAMENU by pressing ALT-I while in the menu system.
The banner text, protection for menu modifications, screen blank delay
as well as the application password can all be modified through DAINSTAL.
If, by chance, the application directory has been changed, or DAMENU cannot
find the files it needs, more often than not the DAMENU.DAT file is pointing
to the wrong directory. This file is located in your ROOT directory and can
be updated in one of two ways.
First, if you have an ASCII text editor, simply edit the file to reflect the
directory where the DAMENU application files can be found and save that file
in the root directory. Make sure that you include the final backslash (\) on
the directory name!
Second, you can delete the file DAMENU.DAT, and re-run the DAINSTAL program
from the new directory. Any current menu entries will be lost by deleting
DAMENU.DAT and running DAINSTAL.
